STORY 1 - THE FAIREST OF FIGHTS
Everyone loves festivals...
The idea was born over stale ale at the Prancing Pony. Echelwallbrick, her massive dwarven steel gauntlets resting heavily on the wooden table, slammed her mug down. "We are going to the Farmer Faire," she declared, her eyes gleaming with Shire nostalgia.
Echelarea, the heavily armored Elf burglar, stopped sharpening one of her dual swords. She stared at the small hobbit as if she had suggested volunteering for Sauron. Next to her, Echelruuke, the towering Beorning skin-changer, simply let out a low, rumbling growl that shook the tavern's rafters. They were vanguard elite, harbingers of destruction—not festival people. Yet, the tiny brawler was broke, persistent, and stubborn. Soon enough, they were marching toward Hobbiton.
From the moment they arrived, the two tall companions looked completely alien among the festive ribbons and rolling green hills. Their aggressive natures turned innocent games into terrifying spectacles. During the mushroom-picking contest, Echelwallbrick frantically tried to explain the rules: "No, you just pick them and hide from the dogs!"
It was too late. Farmer Maggot’s guard dogs took one sniff of Echelruuke, sensed the slumbering apex predator within the Beorning, and fled yelping into the Bound-shards. Meanwhile, at the wine stall, a trembling vendor nearly fainted when Echelarea drew both her blades simply to haggle over the price of a vintage bottle.
The whimsical holiday shattered at nightfall near The Hill. A vile patrol of goblins ambushed a group of partying hobbits on the road to Brockenborings. Screams pierced the night. A few hobbits fell, the rest fled in terror, and the sneering monsters ransacked the festival grounds, stealing the prized reward chests and ancient Mathoms.
The hobbits wept, but the three heroes grinned. Finally, something they actually understood.
They tracked the raiding party just north of Brockenborings. Under the cover of midnight, the counter-attack was an absolute, glorious bloodbath. Echelruuke shifted into her massive bear form, roaring as she tore through the terrified goblins, scattering fur and black blood across the grass. Echelarea moved like a lethal dancer, her dual swords carving through armor in a rhythmic, brutal waltz. Echelwallbrick acted like a heavyweight champion, her spiked steel gauntlets shattering goblin skulls with explosive, metallic thuds. For thirty minutes, the residents of Brockenborings heard nothing but horrific screams and snapping bones. Then, silence.
The next morning, Hobbiton stood in stunned disbelief as the trio marched back. They were drenched in black gore but carried all the stolen loot, including the precious Mathoms. Overwhelmed with gratitude, the elders offered the greatest treasure a hobbit could conceive: a mountainous pile of exquisite food and barrels of elite spirits. They thought hobbits may be very hungry, but they vastly underestimated the greed of a cynical Elf and the bottomless stomach of a wild Beorning.
Next day, back in Bree, Captain Echelandir stepped out of the Prancing Pony, rubbing his temples. Down the cobblestone street came a ridiculous sight: a massive wooden wagon, overflowing with hams, wheels of cheese, sausages, meat pies and enormous kegs.
Standing atop the pile was Echelarea, completely wasted, swinging an empty mug and screeching: "I bloody love festivals! We have provisions for a year, Captain!" Beside her sat Echelruuke, equally drunk, happily waving a massive battleaxe while balancing on a giant barrel of Old Winyards from the Southfarthing.
At the front, steering the horses, Echelwallbrick buried her face in her hands, quietly realizing that inviting her terrifying friends to the Shire was probably the worst idea she ever had...
