Built like a beer barrel and strong as an ox, Echelwardir rose through the Bree Watch using iron fists to crush riots. To citizens, he is a corrupt drunkard who extorts shopkeepers for coin. He once partnered with the Blackwold bandits, but a bloody fistfight over a rigged dice game turned him into the gangs Public Enemy No. 1.His life changed at The Prancing Pony when he tried to cheat a rogue named Echelarea at dice. A brawl erupted, joined by her powerhouse Beorning friend, Echelruuke. The massive riot almost collapsed the inn until Captain Echelandir and the old Rune-keeper Echelzannor ended it with jaw-breaking punches and lightning bolts. Impressed by their power, Echelwardir joined them as a mercenary. He doesn't care about Middle-earth, but knows Sauron pays terribly defending the world is just better for business.Now, he travels with the crew, arm-wrestling Echelruuke and drinking foul ale with Echelarea. Meanwhile, the minstrel Echelinda loathes him as a selfish thug. She has no idea that her own still living uncle secretly pays Echelwardir a hefty sum to act as her hidden bodyguard, ignoring her comments about him.
